Nigel Cox is the Children’s Services Manager at Bernardo’s Plymouth, and in this video he explains how complex the theme of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion is, and breaks down these three definitions.
He goes on to explain that everybody is responsible for creating an equal, diverse and inclusive community, and how important it is to recognise and celebrate individual backgrounds and experiences. In fact, individual differences should actually provide opportunities for creativity and innovation, instead of dividing us.
Nigel pushes for a safe environment where it’s ok to disagree with someone’s opinion, and explores how best to do this in a way that avoids confrontation. The key part to this is a good understanding of someone and a good relationship with them, and Nigel explores how best to achieve this.
